Gadsden, AL is a great place to call home for many reasons. From museums to city parks, there are plenty of interesting places to explore in the area. One of our favorite things about living in Gadsden is its proximity to a number of great fishing spots. Today, we’re covering our favorite places to fish within driving distance of this beautiful city.

Drive on Over: 4 Favorite Fishing Spots Near Gadsden, AL

1. Neely Henry Lake

Neely Henry Lake is one of the best spots for anglers to spend a day. There are over half a dozen boat launches that provide access to this lake, including the Ten Island Park/Henry Dam Boat Ramp at 16157 AL-144. Some of the most common species caught here include largemouth bass, spotted bass, and striped bass. However, you shouldn’t be surprised if you reel in crappie or catfish.

2. Lake Guntersville State Park

Lake Guntersville State Park at 1155 Lodge Dr is another great place to fish. Lake Guntersville is a 75-mile, 69,000-acre lake, and it is known around the country for its large bass population. However, it is not only large bass you can catch here. Many anglers launch from one of the free boat ramps granting lake access, trying to attract:

  • Crappie
  • Redear sunfish
  • Longear sunfish
  • Bream
  • Bluegill

3. Black Creek

Black Creek is another must-visit fishing spot near Gadsden. You can access this creek from Noccalula Falls Park at 1500 Noccalula Road. However, you should keep in mind that there are unique regulations to fish for trout on Black Creek.

Besides a State of Alabama fishing license, you need to buy a permit to fish for trout from the City of Gadsden Parks and Recreation Department. These permits are available at the Noccalula Falls Campground office, and you can also purchase them online.

4. Big Wills Creek Campground & Tubing

Finally, we strongly recommend heading down to Big Wills Creek Campground & Tubing at 2075 Hwy 77 for a fun-filled fishing trip. There are many well-marked access points to this creek, and you can wade into the river or fish from a paddle boat or kayak. Some of the most targeted fish species are panfish, catfish, and bass. After a day of fishing, you can camp or spend the night in a cabin.

There are many great spots for fishing in Gadsden, but there are limited fishing opportunities if you don’t have a truck that can reliably tow your boat. If it’s about time to replace a major part in your truck, like your motor or transmission, now is the perfect time to buy a new truck. Visit us today at Team One CDJR of Gadsden to take a 2023 Ram 1500 for a test drive.
